FENG SHUI AND INTERIOR DESIGN
What is Feng Shui?
Feng shui is the ancient art/science of identifying, analyzing, and manipulating the unseen energies of the earth which auspiciously or inauspiciously affect us. The principles of feng shui are grounded in an understanding of chi (qi), the Asian word for these primordial life-force energies that weave their way through our environment and our bodies. Thousands of years ago, the Chinese began to methodically study them, test them, and chronicle the results.
Feng shui means “wind and water.” “Wind” represents movement of chi. “Water” represents containment of chi. Just as you would want neither stagnant water nor blasting winds, the goal of the Flying Star feng shui practitioner is to manipulate the vital energies in your building so that they move freely at a healthy speed.
Kerry Louise’s Methods
To create the best “earth luck” possible in your building, Kerry Louise combines several skills in her full feng shui evaluations, some of which are patently classical and others which are unique to her practice. They include Flying Star and landform feng shui, symbology, dowsing, and energy clearing. In addition, your unique personal relationship to the property is evaluated through Chinese astrology.
Flying Star Feng Shui
The foundation of Kerry Louise’s feng shui practice is the Flying Star method, which is the feng shui standard throughout Asia. If you were to call in a practitioner from Singapore or Hong Kong, this is the method they would use. In the same way that acupuncture analyzes and adjusts the energy flow throughout your body, Flying Star feng shui does the same thing with the “body’ of your building.
A unique feature of Flying Star is that it recognizes that all vital forces are continually moving and changing. This includes the chi flow in a building. When you hire Kerry Louise to feng shui your building, there will be initial recommendations; and then it is important to have a yearly checkup to tweak the changes in the chi flow that have occurred over the past year.
Landform Feng Shui
The most ancient and basic form of feng shui is called Landform. When Kerry Louise comes onto your property, she will evaluate the character of the land upon which your building sits, the surrounding physical and topographical features (which include nearby buildings, mountain formations, rivers and roads) and the shape of your building, the relationships of its rooms, and the placement of the furnishings within them. It is a common saying in feng shui that “Landform rules.” Landform features have the most powerful impact on the auspiciousness of your property. This is one reason it is beneficial to call in a feng shui practitioner to evaluate a site before building. Of course this often isn’t possible since most of us these days buy ready-built buildings; but even in that case, Landform feng shui is an important part of the process of making your property as healthy as it can be.
Symbology
Use of symbols is a powerful trigger for our minds. What we have in our environment both reflects and affects our mindset which, in turn, affects how we behave and what we attract to ourselves. For example, in using symbology, a person who wants to get married yet has an apartment filled with “ones” -- one candleholder, one bedside table, and a bronze statue of a lonely person -- would be encouraged to exchange those for paired items. A person who is plagued by bad luck would be advised to get rid of the shipwreck painting; and an unhealthy person might be advised to add healthy, upward-growing plants to specific rooms. A very popular form of feng shui these days uses positions from the front door to determine where to place specific symbols. On the other hand, in the classical feng shui used by Kerry Louise, symbols are placed in the rooms that match the function of the symbols. For example, in the classical system, the master bedroom would be the place for symbols that support a happy married life; the kitchen should reflect good health; and the living room in the home greets the outside world where it is helpful to have symbols that attract prosperous, satisfying relations with those we deal with outside of the family.
Dowsing and Energy Clearing
When you ask for a full feng shui evaluation, part of the package is an energy clearing. Kerry Louise believes that when she performs feng shui, it is important to use all of her skills to make the subtle energies of the building as healthy as possible and that energy clearing is essential to this end. Kerry Louise also uses dowsing as an adjunct in all of her work.
Taking Photographs
Kerry Louise often takes photographs of the premises in order to have a record from which she can study your case in the evaluation and report-writing phases. They are also valuable in answering questions that you might have weeks or months after you receive your report. If you don’t want photos taken, let her know.
The Written Report
In the on-site visit, Kerry Louise gathers all the information she needs to make a comprehensive written report of her findings, what she’s done, and what she recommends you do to make your building the most auspicious and healthy place it can be. It usually takes about two weeks from the time of the on-site visit to the time you receive the report.

PREPARING YOURSELF FOR A FULL FENG SHUI EVALUATION
Before your full feng shui evaluation, Kerry Louise will ask you for the following:
•Name, address, phone number, email address.
•The birth date, time, and place of all members of the household or key members of the company.
•How many cell phones, laptops, and other remote electronic devices are used in the family or company.
•Whether you have a microwave oven.
•How large the premises is, how many buildings, floors, bedrooms, offices, etc.
•A floor plan of the property prior to the on-site visit. This can be a hand drawing and does not have to be to scale as long as the rooms are in general size relationship to one another.
•The year the building was built and when any major renovations or additions were made since it was built.
•What your key concerns are.

BUSINESS OR HOME FIRST
The roots of one’s business are in the home. If you are interested in stimulating the energies of a sluggish company or in balancing the energies of a chaotic business, the best place to start is with a feng shui overhaul of the business owner’s home. After that, we can take a look at the business location.

SELLING A HOUSE
For those properties that are not selling, working with Kerry Louise can bring the right buyer to the door. Watch out, though. It’s not unusual that the sellers of homes that are feng-shui’ed change their minds and decide to stay!

INTERIOR DESIGN AND WORKING WITH ARCHITECTS
Kerry Louise has a degree in interior design. Classic feng shui is not an interior-design system in itself; but there are many advantages to designing your home, inside and out, in conjunction with feng shui principles. Kerry Louise assesses your design preferences and applies universal feng-shui principles to the decor and architecture you have in mind. For example, if you have modern Western-style decor, the feng-shui principles are integrated into that design scheme. She is not limited to just Asian decor or talismans. If you’re interested in having a feng-shui-correct building, it is wise to have your architect work with your feng shui consultant from the beginning.

BEFORE YOU BUY LAND OR A BUILDING
If there is a piece of land or a building that you are interested in buying or renting, Kerry Louise will get to the property as soon as possible, evaluate it, and make her recommendations on the suitability of the property so you can timely make your decision whether or not to buy or rent that site.

“Kerry suggested we make some simple changes in our home, and I could feel the difference right away. Space that previously had a ‘dark feeling’ felt more open and positive. Long-term, it has helped my energy, and my health is better.”
